location - click here to view full mapThe Queen Anne Lodge with the Queen Anne obelisk in the background. Date of picture unknown, possibly late victorian?

« Previous | Next »

This obelisk was built in 1734 to commemorate Thomas Wentworth's patron Queen Anne, who died 20 years earlier. Thomas lists all of the titles he has gained, many of them given to him by Queen Anne but doesn't mention King George I once, only 'the successor', a man he never served or held office under.

Works to this monument are planned in Phase II of the restoration.  It forms part of the Monument Trail around the Parkland which opened to the public in 2007.
