The first phase of woodland restoration includes the recovery of two of the important features of the grade 1 listed parkland estate: Broom Royd and Ivas Woods. Almost all of Broom Royd Wood was lost to open-cast mining.

A total area of 25.3 hectares of new woodland will be planted with over 21,000 trees, to restore the character of these woods.

Works are scheduled to start in 2006, to be completed by December 2008. This major project is supported by South Yorkshire Forest.
